Dear Judy and family – so sorry for the loss of George’s passing. You have many years and memories to help sustain you. You are in my prayers. I am unable to come at this time, but am certainly thinking about you. God bless you all! Love, Norma Jean
Dr. George L. Stiles, born March 9, 1940, in Jackson, MI, was received into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 30, 2018. George graduated from Jackson High School in 1958, earned a BA in Biblical Studies from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, a Master’s degree in Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburgh, IN, as well as a Doctorate of Theology from Trinity. In 1978, he was ordained to the gospel ministry in Sterling Heights, MI. George’s service spanned more than 50 years and included youth minister, camp director and waterfront safety instructor, bus minister, assistant pastor, senior pastor, seminary vice-president, and several interim pastorates. George was a tender-hearted, faithful servant and felt especially privileged to lead several family members to the Lord.
George passionately loved his country and served six years in the U.S. Army where he earned his sharpshooter badge. He was also an NRA sharpshooter.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorthea Stiles, and brothers, Wayne, Kenny, and Bob, all of Jackson, MI. He is survived by Judy, his wife of 55 years, daughter, Amy Wiandt (Ken) of Clinton, MS, sons, Kevin (Vannah) of Newburgh, IN and Andrew (Kimberly) of Columbus, IN. George especially loved his grandchildren, Amy’s daughter, Sarah Beth, Kevin’s sons, Chase, Aiden and Aaron (twins), Andrew’s children Eric and Emily (twins) and Kate, as well as former daughter-in-law, Joella Stiles (mother of Chase, Aidan and Aaron), and step-grandchildren Brandon and Felicia Hickrod (Vannah’s children). He is also survived by his brother, Richard Stiles of Jackson, MI, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, from 4:30-8 PM at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 1800 St. George Road in Marion, IN, and from 9:30-10:30 AM Friday, October 5, before the service at 10:30, with graveside service and burial to immediately follow.
